The Campbell PA program is coming!!!
As program director I am very pleased and excited about the progress being made in developing a stellar PA program. The curriculum has been created and is being fine-tuned by our talented faculty and staff. We have been pleasantly surprised by the amount of community support for our program. Each week more community physicians and PAs contact me with the desire to become part of our program. Campbell has a large family of dedicated supporters. Many of those physicians and PAs will teach in our didactic year, adding their expertise to educate our future clinicians. We have also identified many clinical affiliations to provide supervised clinical educational experiences for our second year clinical students. Among those affiliations are Wake Med Health & Hospitals, Harnett Health System, and the Harnett County Health Department to mention just a few.
In August 2009 when I was first recruited to develop the program I met with Dr. Ron Maddox, Dean of the School of Pharmacy and Dr. Dwaine Greene, Provost. I was immediately impressed by their leadership which set the pace for the thorough preparation that went into the planning for a new PA Program. It was evident that Campbell is committed to educating future PA clinicians who are needed to respond to the primary care shortage that is evident throughout the healthcare system. In recent months the Campbell School of Pharmacy has undergone restructuring to accommodate the inclusion of allied health disciplines. We are now recognized as the Campbell University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences. Building on the success and reputation of the School of Pharmacy, the PA program will train excellent, caring healthcare providers to meet the needs of the community and the nation. With the construction of our new facility our students will have the benefits of the Campbell heritage combined with the latest advances in medical education.
The future is bright for PAs. Changes in the healthcare system recognize the importance of PAs as integral members of the healthcare team. Expectations are for a 39% increased demand for PAs over the next decade. This is the time for you to consider answering the call to become a PA. This is the time for you to consider becoming a Campbell PA. I encourage you to apply to our program and set a course for your future in medicine.
With best wishes for all of your endeavors,
Tom Colletti, MPAS, PA-C
